A Librarian and Her Dog

This is me and Ruby. She is the joy of my life. Without her I don't know what I would do. How can a 50 pound dog bring such happiness and meaning to a person's life? I don't know, but I am so glad I found her. She had been dumped by the side of the road with her puppies. Then she was adopted from the shelter and returned because of "separation anxiety." I have an idea, people, when you choose to bring a pet into your life why don't you also choose to take fucking care of it? When I found Ruby at the shelter her name was Rhonda and she was so sad she wouldn't lift her head or wag her tail or even walk near me so I could pet her. I can understand why she was so sad- people were mean to her and they named her Rhonda. But now we are happy together!!!!!

All About Ruby- Just the Facts Ma'am

Ruby is a nearly 4-year-old Chow mix that I found at the local shelter when I went there to pet the dogs on a snowy day. I had gone there many times over, oh probably 6 years, to pet the dogs because I live in a small apartment, yadda yadda, and I didn't think I could have a dog. I had never even considered adopting any dogs up to that point, but the minute I saw Ruby (known sadly as Rhonda at that time) I knew I had to have her. Even though I kept telling myself why I couldn't adopt this dog and how I couldn't afford her and how there was something very wrong with her because some stupid jerk returned her to the shelter I just couldn't get her out of my mind. Then my friend from work (not the rich lady, just the crazy cat lady- Satine and Vivi's foster mom) asked me to help her take some foster kitties to the shelter to go into adoption condos. This was about 2 days after I had first seen Ruby/Rhonda. So I went with my friend and I went back to see if Ruby/Rhonda was still there. There she was- staring sadly at the floor with her bushy red tail down. I couldn't take it. The very next day they featured Rhonda in the paper to try and get someone to adopt her. I was incensed! I went down there during lunch and told them they featured my dog in the paper. That was it. I picked her up that night and she rode in the front seat of the car standing up kind of freaked out. Now she rides in the back and puts her feet on the console and her head up by mine! It's much better.

Ruby goes to daycare most days when I go to work. She plays with her best friend Opie, a rat terrier. She bites his leg and then he chases her and then they do it all over again. When I am not at work I usually stay home with her because I like to hang out with her. We take lots of walks and go to PetSmart where Ruby stares at the chincillas and hamsters and wishes she could chase them. One day she got so excited there watching a rat that she forgot there was glass between them and bumped her head trying to get it! During our walks lots of people want to pet Ruby. She mostly just wants to walk, but she will stop and let them pet her briefly. Ruby is very attractive to little kids because she always carries a toy in her mouth when we walk. She isn't too crazy about little kids because she finds them unpredictable. I have started carrying treats for them to give her, which makes them much more appealing to her. She likes most other dogs, except boisterous ones or puppies. They get a sharp "Rrow ruff" when they get in her face, and then we walk on! One time I got in a little altercation with this a**hole in his truck and I had Ruby in the car with me. After I told him to f*$k off he started to get out of his truck in a threatening manner. Ruby went crazy barking and growling at him and he got back in his truck and drove off. Isn't Ruby the best?
